82 people killed in Sudan gold mine collapse

At least 82 people have lost their lives and another 52 were injured as a result of a gold mine collapse in southern Sudan, Gulf News reported.

According to the agency, it is currently unknown how many people remain trapped under the rubble.

Due to high unemployment among the country's population, many young Sudanese mine for gold under dangerous conditions, mainly in unregulated mines such as Al-Zaraa in West Kordofan.

On September 15, the mine walls began to collapse on the miners, and the bodies of 82 people were found the following day.
