8 million euro yacht sinks four days after purchase (video)

A superyacht worth more than 9 million euros has caught fire and sunk off the coast of Sardinia just four days after it was purchased, Italian newspaper Il Messaggero reported.

The 30-meter-long Angiola II is said to have caught fire off the coast of the Costa Smeralda, near Porto Cervo. The ship caught fire and soon sank completely. All 14 people on board were rescued by emergency services.

The Angiola II had been handed over to its new owner four days before the tragedy. The damaged vessel is scheduled to be towed to shore by tugboat. Emergency services said no fuel was leaked into the water as a result of the incident. The manufacturer of the vessel, Amer Yachts, said that the yacht was launched in 2020 and has changed owners several times since then.

The company said: “While the yacht was under warranty, we monitored its maintenance. We are satisfied that the passengers and crew are safe. We, like others, await the results of the official investigation.”

It should be recalled that in May, a yacht also sank off the coast of the Australian state of New South Wales. At that time, a lifeboat also capsized due to strong waves, resulting in the death of three people. Two of the victims were volunteer rescuers.
