7 cemeteries to be relocated due to construction of New Tashkent airport

It has been decided to relocate 7 inactive cemeteries located in the area where the New Tashkent International Airport will be built in the Tashkent region. This was announced in the decision of the khokim of the Tashkent region dated September 15.

According to the decision, 2 of the relocated cemeteries are located in the Quyi Chirchiq district, and 5 are in the O‘rta Chirchiq district.

The "Sergeli bolalar" (Sergeli children's) and "Koreys" (Korean) cemeteries in the "Sergeli" mahalla, the "Suvon bag‘ish" and "Qudoyqul" Muslim cemeteries, the "Qudoyqul" and "Sariktepa" Korean cemeteries, and the "Boris" Russian Christian cemetery in the "Yangiyo‘l" mahalla area will be relocated.

The document notes that burials at these cemeteries were stopped many years ago. The Muslim Board of Uzbekistan issued a conclusion on this matter on April 10, 2026. According to it, the areas of cemeteries where the remains of the deceased are likely to have turned into soil can be used in accordance with the established procedure.

If bone remains are found when the graves are opened, they will be carefully collected and reburied in other cemeteries. The relocation work will be carried out in compliance with sanitary-epidemiological, environmental, architectural, religious, and public requirements.

The decision also specifies which cemeteries the graves will be relocated to:

- Graves exhumed from the "Sergeli bolalar" cemetery will be moved to the "Shardara" cemetery;

- Graves exhumed from the "Koreys" cemetery will be relocated to the Russian-Korean cemetery in the Sergeli mahalla.

- Graves exhumed from the "Suvon bag‘ish" and "Qudoyqul" Muslim cemeteries will be reburied in the "Zaynab ona" cemetery in the Yangiyo‘l mahalla.

- Graves exhumed from the "Qudoyqul" and "Sariktepa" Korean cemeteries, as well as the "Boris" Russian Christian cemetery, will be relocated to the Korean cemetery in the Taraqqiyot mahalla.

It is specified that the reburial work must be performed in accordance with religious customs.

Expenses related to the relocation of cemeteries, reburial, preparation, and improvement of the areas will be funded from sources not prohibited by legislation. The expenses are to be covered by the private partner within the framework of the New Tashkent International Airport construction project.

Earlier, it was reported that there are plans to relocate the population in the area and pay them compensation due to the construction of the New Tashkent International Airport.
