The ranking includes 1,722 universities from 26 Asian countries and territories. Uzbekistan is represented by 38 universities, including 15 new participants. The country's performance indicators grew by 17%.

The highest position among Uzbek universities is still held by the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME) — 113th place. However, compared to last year's ranking, the university dropped 10 spots.

National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek took 196th place (180th in 2026). Samarkand State University climbed 92 positions to reach 215th place.

The most notable growth among Uzbek universities was demonstrated by Namangan State Technical University, which gained 245 positions to rank 469th.

The QS Asia Rankings are compiled based on an evaluation of educational institutions across 11 criteria. The indicators were adapted to reflect the characteristics of the region, distinguishing this ranking from the global QS World University Rankings.

According to the QS study, Uzbek universities show strong results in criteria such as "Employer Reputation", "International Faculty Ratio", and "Inbound & Outbound Student Exchange".

Research productivity remains the main challenge for Uzbek universities: the lowest scores were recorded in "Citations per Paper" and "Papers per Faculty".

"Uzbekistan is one of the most dynamically developing higher education systems in this year's ranking. Rapid expansion, a growing number of international partnerships, and record results from universities such as Samarkand State University demonstrate that the sector is gaining momentum. Further progress will depend on building research capacity to match the country's growing scale and international ambitions," noted QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter.

In the overall Asian ranking, the University of Hong Kong retained first place. Peking University remained in second place. Tsinghua University took third place, climbing nine positions.

The top 20 is generally comprised of universities from Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia.

Central Asia is represented by 99 universities from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
