2027 could be the warmest year on record. Kontroll.hu reported this, citing the UK Meteorological Service.

According to the weather service, the strongest El Niño event in history is expected to occur in the Pacific Ocean. In some parts of the ocean, the surface temperature may rise by more than 3 degrees above average.

This will be the highest figure in the history of observations since 1950. That is why the coming year is expected to be record-breakingly warm. Adam Scaife, head of the institute's long-range forecasting department, called this event unprecedented and noted that he had never seen such a strong El Niño before.

El Niño is a natural climate phenomenon that occurs once every 2–7 years and lasts about a year. During this period, winds blowing from east to west over the Pacific Ocean weaken or change direction. As a result, warm ocean waters spread eastward. A large amount of heat is released from the ocean into the atmosphere, which increases global temperatures and can change precipitation patterns.

Scientists record an El Niño event when the surface temperature of a particular area of the Pacific Ocean is at least 0.5 degrees Celsius above average. Current measurements show that this difference is more than 2 degrees.

This is the strongest El Niño event recorded since 1950. It may even be the strongest since the 19th century. Other climate forecasts predict even sharper fluctuations, with temperature differences of up to 4 degrees Celsius. Earlier, it was reported that the approaching El Niño could increase the risk of flooding in Central Asia.
