You'll be surprised: do you know what our favorite foods are actually made of?

Amazing: Do you know what our favorite foods are actually made of?

It’s nice to treat yourself to a sweet treat every now and then, of course. We all have our favorite foods, but let’s face it: we rarely think about what they’re actually made of.

**Nutella**

Nutella’s main ingredients are sugar and palm oil, which make up more than 50 percent of the product. In addition, the spread contains 13 percent hazelnuts, 7.4 percent cocoa and 8.7 percent skimmed milk. In many countries, Nutella is sold as a hazelnut spread. However, it cannot be called a chocolate spread, as it contains very little cocoa powder.

**Donuts**

The amino acid L-cysteine (E920) is a food additive extracted from duck feathers or human hair. Cysteine is used in baking because it gives the dough elasticity and softness. Donuts, bagels, and pizzas may contain chemically treated feathers or hair. However, cysteine is not always listed on the packaging.

**Chewing gum**

Chewing gum consists of a base, flavorings, softeners, flavorings, colors, and a solid or powdered polyol coating. The base of the chewing gum is made up of polymers, plasticizers, and resins. Polymers provide elasticity and stickiness, plasticizers provide plasticity, and resins provide chewiness.

**Breakfast cereals**

Ionol (butylhydroxytoluene) is an organic compound used as an antioxidant in jet fuel, lubricants, and breakfast cereals. Scientists say that this chemical, found in such cereals, can interfere with the digestive system's signal to the brain that the body is full. This can lead to overeating.

**Sausages**

Rumors that cheap sausages contain beaks, hooves, and other debris have been debunked. The presence of by-products must be indicated in the composition. Sausages are often made from leftover meat and minced meat. Some sausage ingredients include wheat or rice flour, water to increase the weight of the product, preservatives and flavor enhancers. Sausage casings are made from animal intestines or from cow and pig skin collagen (for cheaper sausages).

**Ketchup**

The main ingredients of ketchup are tomatoes, sweeteners, vinegar, salt, spices, flavorings, onions and garlic. Sweeteners are usually cane or beet sugar. Other sweeteners include dextrose or liquid sugar in the form of corn or glucose syrup. Different brands of ketchup have similar formulas, differing mainly in the amount of spices or flavorings. The viscosity is due to the high ratio of sugar and spices to tomato juice.

**Chocolate Milk**

Chocolate milk, some types of ice cream, puddings and yogurt often contain carrageenan, a red seaweed powder. It binds other ingredients without increasing the fat and calorie content of the product. Since it is vegetable-based, it is convenient for labeling: seaweed is theoretically organic. However, recent studies have shown that carrageenan can be harmful to the digestive system. It is likely that in the near future it will not be considered organic and its use will decrease significantly.

**Pringles**

Many people think of Pringles as potatoes that have been specially cut and fried in oil. In fact, these chips are only 42 percent potato. The rest is water and starchy flour. The ingredients are pressed and round chips are made.

**Funchoza**

Of course, such noodles are made from vegetable starch, most often from mung beans, and rarely from sweet potatoes or peas.
