Woman in Surkhandarya sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for trying to sell her 11-year-old son for 40 million soums
A woman in Surkhandarya who tried to sell her 11-year-old son for 40 million soums, citing economic hardship, has been convicted. She was caught receiving 20 million soums of the agreed-upon amount. The court found her guilty of human trafficking and sentenced her to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

A court verdict was announced in Surkhandarya region against a woman who tried to sell her 11-year-old son for 40 million soums and she was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. This was reported in the “Millar” program.
According to information, the woman, born in 1993, aimed to gain material benefit and income by selling her minor son, born on October 14, 2014.
On April 4, 2026, she was detained by operatives with material evidence while receiving 20 million soums of the agreed 40 million soums.
The documents collected in the criminal case initiated on this case were considered in an open court session at the Termez City Criminal Court.
In court, the woman fully confessed to her guilt. She stated that she committed the crime due to economic difficulties, including debt, lack of housing, and divorce from her husband. She also stated that she committed the crime because she could not provide decent conditions for her children, thinking about their well-being, and that she sincerely regretted her actions.
The defendant also asked for a fair decision in the case, taking into account that she had two other minor children in her care.
According to the court verdict, the woman was found guilty of Article 135, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code (human trafficking committed against a person who was known to the perpetrator to be under the age of 18). Article 57 (Lesser Punishment) of the Criminal Code was applied to her and she was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison. She was ordered to serve the sentence in a general regime colony.
Earlier, a couple in the city of Fergana were sentenced to 5 years in prison for trying to sell their baby.
