Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia Expand Pharmaceutical Cooperation

Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement to broaden their practical collaboration within the pharmaceutical sector. This expanded cooperation will encompass investments, joint ventures, technology exchange, and the manufacturing of contemporary medications. The accord was formalized through a memorandum signed during a Saudi delegation's visit to Uzbekistan, led by Health Minister Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel.

The visit's agenda included an Uzbek-Saudi business dialogue and a roundtable discussion, bringing together representatives from government bodies, medical facilities, and the private sector.

Abdullo Azizov, who serves as the director of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, briefed the Saudi delegation on Uzbekistan's current reforms. These reforms are designed to modernize the pharmaceutical industry, foster high-value-added production, attract international investment, and enhance the nation's export capabilities.

Attendees were also introduced to the BioPharma City pharmaceutical innovation cluster. This initiative aims to establish the necessary infrastructure for advancements in biotechnology, scientific research, innovative manufacturing, and international partnerships.

Beyond pharmaceuticals, the memorandum outlines cooperation in other medical fields. Both nations are committed to fostering investment collaboration, executing joint projects, facilitating technology transfer, and setting up the production of modern medicines.

As part of the Saudi delegation's official visit, bilateral meetings and negotiations between Uzbek and Saudi representatives are ongoing.
