Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan ease travel rules with 15-day registration-free stay
Citizens of Uzbekistan will soon be able to stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 15 days without mandatory registration, following the signing of a protocol aimed at simplifying travel procedures between the two countries.
Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have relaxed their travel regulations, now permitting a 15-day stay without the need for registration.
This change stems from a document signed on July 30, following discussions between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. The agreement modifies the "Agreement on Mutual Travel of Citizens," originally established by the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on October 3, 2006. The two heads of state were present for the exchange of these bilateral documents.
Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this protocol aims to further liberalize the mutual travel system by simplifying the rules for citizens staying in the other nation. It is seen as a step forward in promoting the free movement of people, enhancing cross-border collaboration, and boosting tourism, trade, and humanitarian connections.
The updated rules mean that citizens from both Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will no longer need to secure permanent or temporary registration with the host country's authorities for the initial 15 days after entering.
The Foreign Ministry highlighted that, under current Kyrgyz law, Uzbek citizens must register with the country's internal affairs authorities within five days of their arrival. Once this new protocol is implemented, that registration period will be extended to 15 days.
