Uzatom, Hungary's MVM EGI discuss dry cooling systems for Uzbekistan's nuclear project

Uzatom, Uzbekistan's nuclear energy agency, and Hungary's MVM EGI Zrt., a state-owned engineering firm, convened a working meeting to deliberate on integrating dry cooling systems into Uzbekistan's nuclear power initiative. The discussions primarily addressed technical design aspects, the localization of production, and the groundwork for finalizing a supply contract.

This meeting took place at the Uzatom Agency during a two-day visit by an MVM EGI Zrt. delegation to Uzbekistan. Key topics included refining the facility's design to incorporate dry cooling technology and exploring avenues to enhance the in-country production of components.

Uzatom reported that both parties explored the feasibility of manufacturing dry cooling system components within Uzbekistan. They also discussed progressing to the final phase of contract negotiations for deploying these systems at the nuclear power plant site and subsequently executing the agreements.

Participants highlighted that the proposed technologies align with Uzbekistan's national water conservation strategy and are designed to implement technological solutions suited to the nation's climate and environmental context.

During the meeting, Peter Karpati, CEO of MVM EGI Zrt., affirmed his company's dedication to ongoing collaboration with Uzatom in deploying technologies for Uzbekistan's nuclear energy sector.

Both entities reiterated their commitment to continued cooperation and to practically implementing the agreed-upon strategies.

The MVM EGI delegation's visit also encompasses further technical meetings over two days to review the specifications of the proposed dry cooling systems and discuss necessary engineering solutions for the project's execution. Uzatom indicated that these discussions aim to transition the project from conceptual planning to practical implementation.

The collaboration between Uzatom and MVM EGI Zrt. stems from a previously signed memorandum of understanding. This agreement covers the introduction of dry cooling technologies, boosting production localization, specialist training, and applying technological solutions for both large and small nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan.
