The Senate of Uzbekistan has taken measures to strengthen the protection of children's rights and ombudsmen.

During its 18th plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

According to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, this document aims to improve mechanisms for protecting human rights and freedoms, including children's rights, as well as regulating the work of the ombudsman and the Children's Ombudsman.

The law includes amendments to increase penalties for obstructing the legitimate activities of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

A number of amendments regulate aspects of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for Children's Rights (Children's Ombudsman)'s activities related to parliament. In particular, it is proposed to strengthen his or her role in processes related to juvenile crime, judicial proceedings, and the execution of criminal sentences. The amendments also aim to increase the accountability of officials when reviewing documents included in the ombudsman's list of enforcement actions.

The senators emphasized that the adopted law will contribute to improving the work of local representative government bodies and strengthening mechanisms for protecting the rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of individuals, including children.

Following the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
