The flag of the National Bank of Uzbekistan flies on the peak of Kazbek

Mountaineering occupies a special place among sports that test human will, courage and endurance. Happily, the team of the National Bank of Uzbekistan also includes employees who, due to their interest in mountaineering, have been conquering high peaks.

On August 6, 2026, Andrey Tarantin, an employee of the Treasury Department of the Bank, as part of the “Mysterious Uzbekistan” group, successfully climbed the peak of Mount Kazbek, one of the most famous peaks in Georgia, located at an altitude of 5054 meters above sea level. During the trip, he managed to carry the flag of the National Bank of Uzbekistan to the peak and install it.

Andrey Tarantin has been regularly engaged in mountain trekking since 2021. During this time, he has gained experience in climbing mountain peaks over 3,000 meters in the Tashkent, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.

In May 2023, he and this group successfully climbed the 5,642-meter peak of Mount Elbrus in Russia, the highest point in Europe, in May 2024, the highest volcano in Australia and Oceania - Giluwe Peak (4,368 meters) in Papua New Guinea, and in June 2025, the 5,137-meter peak of Mount Ararat.

Mount Kazbek, one of the national symbols of Georgia, is one of the most famous mountaineering destinations in the world. The 5054-meter-high mountain is covered with permanent glaciers for more than 3800 meters. The first expedition to climb Kazbek was led by the English traveler Douglas Freshfield in 1868. Today, this peak is one of the most prestigious destinations for climbers from different countries of the world.
