Tashkent Allocates 5.1 Billion Soums for Power Grids

Tashkent's city administration is dedicating 5.128 billion soums from its City Development Fund toward upgrading low-voltage power lines. This decision, issued by capital Khokim Shavkat Umurzakov on July 29, has been posted on the E-qaror portal.

The allocated funds will go to Tashkent City Electric Networks LLC. Their purpose is to facilitate the modernization of the city's distribution network, aligning with a presidential decree from July 2023. The financing proposal originated from Obidjon Muminov, the Deputy Khokim for Housing and Communal Services, as noted in the document.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the reliability of the power supply and update Tashkent's energy infrastructure.

Previously, during a meeting focused on fuel and energy development, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted systemic management deficiencies within the sector. He noted that each year, numerous accidents occur at substations and hundreds at transformer points during both summer and winter. Furthermore, he observed that the expansion of the power grid frequently lags behind the actual increase in electricity consumption.

The President also pointed out that over the last five years, electricity usage has more than doubled in several areas, including Tashkent's Yangihayot and Yakkasaray districts, as well as the Ahangaran district and the city of Shirin. He assessed that the absence of precise calculations for infrastructure development requirements results in inefficient use of budget funds.

Following that meeting, leadership changes were implemented in the energy sector. The new leadership was tasked with adopting modern management strategies, formulating a specific program for energy infrastructure development, and improving the dependability of power supply nationwide.

Additionally, a directive was issued to establish a Center for Digitalization of the Fuel and Energy Sector and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence. This center will be responsible for analyzing data from automated electricity and gas metering, identifying potential irregularities, and boosting the sector's overall efficiency.
