Serbian President Says World Is on the Brink of a Major War

Serbian President: World on the Brink of a Major War, States Not Taking Enough Measures
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that the world is on the brink of a major war, but states are not taking enough measures to prevent it. He made this statement in a podcast with Matthias Döpfner, chairman of the board of Axel Springer media concern.
According to Vučić, in five years a new world order will be formed in even more destructive ways than today. He noted that the world is on the brink of a major war.
"I think we are on the brink of a major war. That is why I hoped that someone would have already taken measures to prevent it. But this has not happened and will not happen soon. So we are on the brink of something much more serious," Vučić said.
**Vučić: "New centers of power are forming in the world"**
The Serbian President believes that in the next five years, leading countries will strive for greater independence and reduce external dependence.
According to his analysis, the two main centers of power in the world - the United States and China - will remain. The third center of power should be the European Union, but Vučić said that he is not sure that Europe will be able to take this status.
The fourth pillar will be Russia, India and other major regional countries. In addition, Vučić noted that a new alliance is forming between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
"This will completely change the distribution of power and the environment in the whole world. If you ask me what the situation will be like in five years, I would say that new contours of the balance of power will still be in the process of forming, only this process will be carried out by much more destructive means than today," he said.
**Vučić says a "hybrid war" is underway between Europe and Russia**
The Serbian President also touched upon the relations between Europe and Russia. In his opinion, Europe is currently in a "hybrid war" with Russia.
"You armed Ukraine, imposed sanctions against Russia. At the same time, you provided financial assistance to Ukraine. If this is not a hybrid war against Russia, what is it?", said Vučić.
He also said in March that it would be difficult to prevent World War III, and that it may have already begun.
Vučić noted then that the struggle for oil, gas, minerals, rare metals and other raw materials has already begun. In his opinion, both World Wars I and II began as regional conflicts.
**Vučić has previously warned of the risk of global war**
The Serbian President has repeatedly said that the world is on the brink of a new global war.
In November 2023, he said that the situation in the world was in many ways reminiscent of the times before the world wars.
In October 2025, he said that countries were not seeking negotiations, but were "digging trenches and waiting for the war to start."
In November of that year, Vučić noted that all countries were preparing for a war between Europe and Russia. In March 2026, he said that the world was entering a new era of conflicts.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced his resignation in a few weeks. His term officially ends in 2027. According to the constitution, a person cannot be president for more than two terms. Vučić said that he was "not a dictator" and would not change the constitution.
