Senate approves new law on military pensions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The plenary session of the Senate considered the Law “On State Pension Provision for Military Personnel (Employees) and Their Family Members”.

In recent years, our country has been implementing large-scale reforms aimed at providing social support to military personnel and law enforcement officers, protecting their rights and legitimate interests, and adequately encouraging their services. This Law is a logical continuation of these reforms and serves to comprehensively regulate the state pension provision for military personnel and their family members on the basis of national legislation.

As noted during the discussion, until now, relations in this area have been regulated mainly on the basis of legal acts adopted during the former Soviet Union and certain international agreements. The new Law legally strengthens these relations based on the requirements of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and national legislation.

For the first time, the circle of persons entitled to state pension benefits, the conditions for the appointment of pensions for years of service, disability pensions and survivor's pensions, the procedure for their calculation, recalculation and payment are being determined at the level of a single law.

Important innovations are also envisaged aimed at social incentives for military personnel who have served honestly for many years. In particular, the maximum amount of pension accrual for persons who have served for more than 30 calendar years is being increased from 75 percent to 100 percent.

It is important that these social guarantees apply not only to military personnel who will retire in the future, but also to military personnel, employees and their family members who are currently receiving pensions and have served for more than 30 calendar years.

The law pays special attention to social protection for the families of those who served in the defense of the Motherland. In particular, the legal basis for the appointment of a survivor's pension has been improved, and guarantees are being strengthened for the provision of state pensions to family members of a military serviceman who dies during service or dies as a result of an injury or illness received during service.

As noted, this Law serves to further strengthen the social protection of military personnel and law enforcement officers, to adequately recognize their service, and to reliably protect the rights and interests of family members.
