Oscar-winning songwriter Glen Hansard killed in crash
Hansard, who was 56, won the best song Oscar for the 2007 low-budget musical film Once.
Glen Hansard, the Oscar-winning songwriter and lead singer of the Irish rock band The Frames, has died at 56 in a motorcycle accident in Dublin, his hometown.
Hansard, born in Dublin in 1970, began his career busking on the city's streets. He later gained recognition for his role as Outspan Foster in the 1991 film "The Commitments." In 2007, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the low-budget musical film "Once."
Authorities are seeking witnesses to the single-vehicle crash, which occurred on Lower Road in Lucan, west of Dublin. Emergency services were notified just before 4:30 AM local time.
