Onix driver dies in hospital weeks after fatal crash with police motorcycles

The collision on July 16 at the junction of Dormon Yuli and Gazalkent streets in Tashkent, involving an Onix sedan and three traffic police (YHXX) motorcycles, has seen an increase in fatalities. The driver of the Onix, who was among those hospitalized, succumbed to his injuries on July 27.

Previously, one of the motorcyclists involved in the incident died at the scene on the day of the crash. In addition to the Onix driver, four other individuals were hospitalized: two motorcyclists and a traffic officer who was on duty at the intersection. The condition of the three surviving individuals has since improved, and they have been moved to general wards.

The accident transpired at approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 16. Three traffic patrol officers, riding motorcycles along Dormon Yuli street, collided with an Onix vehicle that had entered the intersection from Gazalkent street.

Initial social media speculation suggested the crash occurred during a motorcade escort. The Interior Ministry refuted these claims, urging the public to refrain from disseminating unverified information.

However, a video circulating on social media depicts law enforcement officers managing traffic and pedestrian flow at the intersection at the time of the incident. After a black van and another black vehicle passed through at high speed, the road was reopened. The traffic light then turned green, and vehicles began to move, despite the motorcade not having fully cleared the intersection.

In the wake of this event, Alisher Usmonov, the head of the Presidential Security Service, was dismissed from his position.
