Green Wave Traffic Light System Launched on Tashkent Street
Tashkent has launched its first synchronized green wave traffic light system on Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street, reducing average travel times by up to 29 percent.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) – A new "green wave" traffic light synchronization system has been activated in Tashkent, marking the launch of its initial phase. The Traffic Management Center reported that the system is now operational on Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street within the Mirzo-Ulugbek district.
Thirteen intersections along Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street, stretching from the Tura Buva Mosque to Salom Street, have had their traffic lights synchronized by specialists from the Center. The system is programmed to prioritize traffic flowing towards the city center during morning hours, and then reverse this priority to the opposite direction in the evenings.
The Traffic Management Center indicated that these adjustments to the traffic lights have resulted in a 29 percent reduction in average travel time from the Tura Buva Mosque to Salom Street, decreasing it from 8.5 minutes to 6 minutes. For the return journey, from Salom Street to the Tura Buva Mosque, travel time saw a 20 percent decrease, dropping from 10 minutes to 8 minutes.
For the system to operate optimally, the center emphasized the importance of drivers adhering to traffic regulations and posted speed limits. Drivers maintaining speeds between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour on this particular stretch can expect to navigate most intersections with minimal stops at red lights.
Currently, experts are engaged in assessments and planning for the expansion of this green wave system to other Tashkent streets that are equipped with smart traffic light technology.
