'Devoted' father dies after alleged assault in Turkey
Scot James, 34, from Maesteg, died in hospital on Sunday after the incident in Turkey earlier in July.
Family members are mourning the loss of Scot James, a "devoted" father from Maesteg, who passed away in a hospital on Sunday following an alleged assault in Turkey earlier in July. His family described him as a man who "touched countless lives."
James, 34, from Maesteg in Bridgend county, succumbed to his injuries at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf, two days after being airlifted back to Wales from Turkey on Friday, July 24.
Turkish authorities are currently investigating the incident, with assistance from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
In a heartfelt tribute, James' family expressed that he was "deeply loved by everyone who knew him." They characterized him as a kind, loyal, and "devoted" son, grandson, brother, partner, father, uncle, and friend.
"He had a warm heart, a great sense of humour, and a natural ability to bring people together, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him," his family shared. "As a family, we are heartbroken by his loss. No words can truly express the pain we are experiencing or the void his passing has left in our lives. We will treasure the time we shared with him and hold him close in our hearts always."
The family affirmed that he will "never be forgotten" and extended their gratitude for the "overwhelming support" and "compassion" shown to them during "this incredibly difficult time." They added, "We also extend our sincere thanks to all those who have cared for Scot and supported us throughout this ordeal."
Maesteg Celtic RFC, a club near Bridgend where James was a former player, conveyed their profound sadness on social media. "Everyone at the club is devastated by this news, and our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time," the club posted. "Scot will be remembered as an outstanding player and a great character and friend by everyone who had the pleasure of sharing the field with him. RIP Scot."
