Uzbekistan’s grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov defeated the second favorite Hikaru Nakamura with the black pieces in the fifth round of the 2026 Candidates Tournament in Cyprus, becoming the first player to start the tournament with 4.5/5. He also entered the world’s top 5 for the first time.
