Andijan spent UZS 730 million on Guinness World Records attempt for traditional dance
Authorities in Andijan region allocated UZS 730 million from the regional budget to cover expenses related to entering the traditional "Andijan Polka" dance into the Guinness World Records.
Andijan utilized UZS 730 million for its endeavor to secure a Guinness World Record for a traditional dance.
The allocation of these funds received approval from the Andijan regional governor on June 22. As per the resolution, the money originated from the reserve fund of the 2026 regional budget and was subsequently transferred to the regional Department of Culture.
The document specifies that these funds are designated to cover costs related to the Guinness World Records application for the "Andijan Polka." The head of the regional Department of Culture was directed to guarantee the efficient and appropriate use of these funds.
A record-breaking performance took place on June 23 at a stadium in central Andijan, where 20,000 individuals simultaneously executed the "Andijan Polka" dance.
Among the participants was Farrukh Nematov, a 15-year-old eighth-grade student from School No. 14 in Asaka district. While traveling back from the event, he was involved in a road accident in a Damas vehicle operated by his school principal. The teenager later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, the boy's mother stated that she had lost her son due to the regional administration's mandate requiring participation in the event.
