12-year-old schoolboy killed by oncoming Cobalt at Denov pedestrian crossing

A 12-year-old student has died after being hit by a Cobalt car while crossing the street in Denov, leading to a criminal investigation. Footage acquired by Kun.uz shows the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road before hitting the child, who was on a bicycle at a pedestrian crossing.

Elnur Abraev, head of the press service for the Traffic Safety Management of Surxondaryo Province Police Department, stated that the incident took place in Denov city on July 26, 2026, around 8:30 PM.

A driver, born in 1992, was operating his father's Cobalt on Sharof Rashidov Street when he struck the 12-year-old boy. The child was using a controlled pedestrian crossing with a green light, while the driver was moving against traffic in the oncoming lane.

The victim, a 7th-grade student at School No. 74 in the district, was transported to the district medical association with serious injuries but succumbed to them despite receiving medical care.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, and a preliminary investigation is in progress.
